This master bath was built around one idea - a shower you actually look forward to stepping into every morning. Large-format marble-look tile on the walls, a wood-plank accent wall running floor to ceiling on the back, and a pebble mosaic floor underfoot. Every material choice was intentional, and the whole thing comes together in a way that feels high-end without being overdone.
The heated flooring system runs through both the main bathroom floor and the shower. Here's something most contractors skip - we use two separate heat cables in each system. One for the main floor, one for the shower. Why does that matter? If one zone ever has an issue, the other keeps working. You're not left with a completely dead system on a cold morning. It's a small detail in the build process that makes a big difference long-term.
The heating cables are laid into the Schluter Ditra mat - that orange underlayment you can see before tile goes down. The Ditra serves double duty. It uncouples the tile from the subfloor to prevent cracking, and it holds the heat cables in place at a consistent depth so the warmth distributes evenly across the floor. No hot spots, no cold patches.
Custom tile work like this takes planning. The accent wall alone requires careful layout to make sure the wood-look planks line up cleanly against the marble-look field tile on either side. Rushing that step shows. We don't rush it. The pebble floor in the shower is another example - it has to be set with the right mortar coverage and properly sloped toward the drain so water doesn't pool. Getting the details right early is what makes the finished product hold up for years.
